Advocacy

For Fathers and Dads

We work with fathers and organizations to identify and advocate for social and equitable justice that will lead to healthy father involvement with children and families.

WHAT WE DO FOR FATHERS

Father Inclusion and Equity

To advocate for father inclusion and equity in order to obtain and sustain positive father engagement through the following:

Advancing the awareness of evidence-based research indicating that when fathers are positively involved, children benefit emotionally, socially and academically.

Advocating the importance of organizations and agencies obtaining and sustaining “father-friendly” environments. This will be accomplished by organization and agencies self-assessing the environment of their organization using the "Father-Friendly Check Up" tool.

Advocating the use of best practices in providing resources and services to men that are equitable, fair and developed to meet the specific needs of men and/or father.

Child Support Assistance

To advocate for fairness and equity in child support services through:

Collaboration with the local child support agency, welfare programs, courts, businesses, department of motor vehicle, and others to ensure fathers receive fair and equitable services that are non-punitive, but conducive toward restoring and rebuilding positive relationships with their children and the custodial parent(s), whenever possible.

Assisting non-custodial fathers in decreasing and eliminating child support arrears and maintaining regular child support payments for the future financial security of his children.

Supporting local and State-wide coalitions advocating for legislative changes in child support policies and procedures that are presently systemically-bias and unfair for (primarily) low-income families, people of color, and non-custodial fathers.

Child Welfare Assistance

To advocate the importance of the fathers in the healthy development of their children through:

Advancing the evidence-based research indicating that when fathers are positively involved, children benefit emotionally, socially and academically.

Collaborating with local public social service agencies, court systems, and other local groups in successfully reunifying fathers with their children in a manner that is systemically non-bias, equitable, and in the best interest of children.

Supporting local and State-wide coalitions and other groups advocating for legislative changes in local child welfare agencies' policies and procedures that are systemically bias and unfair (primarily) toward low-income families, people of color, and non-custodial fathers.
